Malaga, gateway to the Costa Del Sol

Málaga is a large city in the Spanish region of Andalucia. It has a hot climate all year round and is also the birthplace of the artist Picasso.

Malaga is blessed with exceptional road and motorway links, making it an unrivalled base for exploring the nearby villages and towns. Wonderful drives inland reveal the real gems of the region, with small restaurants nestling in the hills where you can experience a truly authentic taste of Andalucia

Popular, mainstream, holiday resorts accesible from Malaga include Benalmadena, Nerja, Torremelinos, Marbella and Fuengirola.

To and from Malaga airport

From Malaga airport you can get a train, a bus or a taxi into town, or hire a car . A taxi to the city centre will cost about 15€. The bus (no. 19) costs 1€ and is very convenient, stopping at Alameda Principal and Paseo del Parque, where most of the local buses that serve the city stop as well. Renting a car at Málaga's airport is relatively cheap, but booking in advance for the best offers is advisable. Tip ! use Kelkoo car hire to compare prices.

Somewhere to stay on the Costa Del Sol

The most popular resorts served by Malaga airport are:

Benalmadena - Located to the west of Malaga and Torremolinos. Has a reputation as a typical "Costa Del Brit" resort.

Fuengirola - Probably the most popular resort at the moment. Blue flag beaches.

Marbella - Playground of the rich and famous, Marbella's main boulevard is home to many stylish boutiques and shops.

Nerja - Once a small fishing village, Nerja is now the biggest resort to the east of Malaga, and has managed to avoid the worst effects of unrestrained expansion and high-rise hotels

Torremolinos - Largest of the resorts of the Costa del Sol and probably the most famous. The mixture in Torremolinos of sun, fun and value for your money has caused people to come back year after year.
